The Concept
Why do some people seem to lose weight while they sleep and others seem to gain weight just by watching? For that we need to understand the body. The control centers of our body are our hormones, which tell the body how to behave.
Important for us is the insulin that is always produced when we eat carbohydrates, e.g. sugary foods such as sweets or soft drinks, but also potatoes, bread and pasta. Whenever we eat carbohydrates/sugar, our insulin levels rise. Insulin usually gets the sugar into the muscle cells, but unfortunately when they are full, it also gets into the fat cells, where the sugar is stored as fat.
When the sugar in the muscle cells is burned, the sugar in the fat cells is then used. When fat storage decreases, a hormone called leptin (the leptin level falls) ensures that we get hungry and shuts down many functions, such as even the endorphins - the metabolism is in the basement. With hunger comes a bad mood.
But how can it be that someone who actually has enough fat in storage still has a low metabolism and has no energy?
The answer: With a constantly high insulin level, i.e. a carbohydrate-rich diet (bread, sugar, muesli, pasta, fast food, sweets), the insulin stimulus covers the leptin stimulus and we get hungry again, although the body has enough carbohydrates / sugar and the metabolism stays down. In addition, sweet foods appeal to our reward center.
Sugar produces insulin, and insulin makes you want more sugar. That is why insulin is used, for example, in animal husbandry as a so-called fattening hormone. Unfortunately, many people eat similar foods every day. Breaking out of this vicious circle is very difficult for many and just getting more exercise and eating less won't solve the problem in the long run if every meal further increases hunger. With a conventional diet, our hormones fight against our willpower every day - this is very exhausting and wearing and hardly anyone can keep up with something like this for long without relapsing again.
